Description

Bacteriostatic water (Bacteriostatic Water for Injection) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol used to dilute or dissolve drugs. the container can enter several times (usually with a sterile needle) and benzyl alcohol suppresses or stops the growth of the most potentially contaminating bacteria. Bacteriostatic water is widely available and has the same name. Bacteriostatic water can be used to dilute drugs, which can then be administered by intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneous injection. There are few side effects of bacteriostatic water on adults, if any, and if they do occur, they may be related to contamination, particles, or drug dissolution (see below) . Side effects that can occur after adding drugs to bacteriostatic water include fever, abscess formation, venous thrombosis or phlebitis, tissue death, and infection.

Bacteriostatic water for injections is supplied in a 30 ml plastic dosing bottle intended for plastic and without pressure. It is not used for medication for newborns due to possible changes in blood pressure and the toxicity of benzyl alcohol. If bacteriostatic water is injected intravenously without diluted compound, it can cause red blood cell lysis because it is not isotonic. Bacteriostatic water generally does not interact with other drugs; however, some injectables may be incompatible. Tell your doctor about all the medications and supplements you use. If you are pregnant, tell your doctor before taking bacteriostatic water. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
